Arise Coffee Bar open for business in Live Oak
LIVE OAK, Fla. — Live Oak is again home to a coffee shop.
Arise Coffee Bar, which is located inside Howland Express, 524 11th St. SW, opened Jan. 6.
Will Howland said he got tired of not having a good coffee shop in Live Oak so he presented the idea of opening one to his father Bill Howland.
Howland said his father was hesitant at first but now comes into the store every day to show him the profits of the previous day.
“It has been a great turnout,” Howland said.
Arise Coffee Bar offers a variety of lattes, frappes, speciality drinks, teas and nitro cold brew. Vegan and non-dairy options are available. Flavors available are praline, caramel, pumpkin spice, hazelnut, vanilla bean, cinnamon dolce, toasted marshmallow and peppermint.
Howland said the most unique drink on the menu is the Chocolate Delight Latte topped with whipped cream, chocolate drizzle and pecan crumble.
“I’ve never really seen it anywhere else,” Howland said.
Howland said the nitro cold brew is cold brew coffee infused with nitrogen gas which gives it a bubbly texture.
“I want to keep it local,” Howland said. “From our cups to our milk, we have tried to buy local.”
Howland said the drive to open a coffee shop was the change of generations.
“Up and coming generations coming into Live Oak have a taste for good coffee,” Howland said. “I saw a void there and wanted to fill it.”
He said the WB Howland Home Improvement Warehouse is known for being open for almost 100 years and it got tho that point because it changed with new generations and tried new things.
Howland said he was never a coffee drinker growing up but after working in a coffee shop in Colorado Springs and experiencing coffee many different ways on mission trips, he got passionate about coffee.
The inspiration behind the name of the bar comes from Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine for your light has come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.”
“I think this is going to be a really positive thing for the community,” Howland said. “Not just the business but as a ministry. We’re hoping to get to a point where a percentage of our proceeds will go towards community development and overseas development as far as a mission.”
Employee Cara Seaman was happy that the coffee bar is also a ministry.
“When it’s slow, I’ve gotten to talk to people about a ton of different topics,” Seaman said.
Arise Coffee Bar is open from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays.
