Seats available for Holtz dinner
VALDOSTA – Legendary coach Lou Holtz is scheduled to speak in less than two weeks for the annual Georgia Christian School banquet.
Seats are still available, according to the school.
Holtz is the latest in a series of famed speakers booked by Georgia Christian School for its annual banquet, said Brad Lawson, GCS president, and Ryan Warren, GCS board member.
Other speakers have included former President George W. Bush, former First Lady Laura Bush, former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, legendary quarterback Terry Bradshaw, country music star Vince Gill and former FOX News pundit and author Bill O’Reilly.
The annual banquet has become the premier event for the area, Warren and Lawson said. Ever since booking President Bush a few years ago, the school has almost no trouble booking any guest.
For the 10th anniversary of the banquet and to mark the hire of new GCS football coach Crosby Tuck, organizers wanted to return to the origins of the event by hosting a sports figure as the keynote speaker.
Holtz is best known for his time coaching Notre Dame but he’s left his mark at every school he’s coached.
He is the only college football coach to take six different teams to a bowl game, win five bowl games with different teams and have four different college teams ranked in the final Top 20 poll, according to his biography.
Holtz is also known for his colorful and insightful commentary on ESPN, radio programming and as a public speaker.
Warren said Holtz regularly receives standing ovations at the end of his speeches, according to the Washington Speakers Bureau that represents him.
GCS hosts Holtz, Oct. 5, Valdosta State University, Student Union Ballroom. Sponsorships are available. More information: Visit www.georgiachristian.org. Sponsorships often sell out the GCS banquet prior to individual tickets being sold.
