Softball season ends for Vikettes

Staff reports

DALLAS — The Lowndes Vikettes’ 2024 softball season came to a close Wednesday at North Paulding. The Lady Wolfpack won by scores of 1-0 and 8-5 to sweep the series.

It was a rough first round for all four Region 1-6A teams. Richmond Hill fell in a sweep to Walton and while both No. 1 Colquitt County and No. 4 Tift County were able to extend their series — against Etowah and North Cobb, respectively — neither were able to advance.

Madelyn Dailey held North Paulding to one run and three hits in the opener, but the home team was even better in the circle. Gracie Williamson worked a walk to start the game. Lowndes’ only other baserunner came on an error.

A sixth inning sac fly provided the lone Lady Wolfpack run.

The Vikettes got the bats going in the nightcap, going ahead 5-0 in the fourth inning. However, North Paulding plated eight in the sixth.

Katie Huffmaster had the big blow with a three-run homer. Lowndes had four hits.
