Harpe wins at Douglas, moves into 1st
Playing in the Georgia Amateur Golf Promotions Michelob Ultra Senior Blitz at a tough Douglas Country Club layout, Mike Harpe of Valdosta outlasted the field to take first place.
Playing the top five finishers, Jack Coffey finished second and won four skins. Third place went to John Ungar. Matt Granger finished fourth, won the Cheddars Par-3 contest and had two skins. David Beals took fifth and won three skins. With the win Harpe moves into a tie with Granger for first place. Next event is slated for Spring Hill Country Club in Tifton on Wednesday, May 10.
Around the state, Country Oaks Golf Club members and Quitman Country Club members competed in a Ryder Cup format consisting of 24 players from each club. Country Oaks won, scoring 43 points to Quitman’s 17.
The first flight consisted of Gene Jarvis and Lee Westwood’s 136; Cole Bracey and Adam Scott shot a 142; Lee Ragan and Brian Stvard shot a 143; Kyle Reichert and Brooks Koepka shot a 143; Russ Barrett and John Raham finished with a 147; Ron Reeves and James Hahn had a 148; Lee Fletcher and Bill Haas had a 149; Tom Erickson and Francesco Molinari shot a 150; Jonathan Dunn and Steve Striker had a 155 and Scott Kefalas and Ernie Els finished with a 159.
In the second flight, Chris Qualheim and Justin Rose shot a 140; Phoebe Fulford and Matthew Fitzpatrick had a 143; Bill Knisely and Paul Casey had a 144; Marc Long and Fred Couples finished with a 147; Rick Shepard and Jorden Spieth had a 148; Kirk Murphy and Branden Grace shot a 148; John Meeks and J.B.Holmes had a 148; Bob Reichart and Matt Kuchar finished with a 149; Scottie Thompson, Pete Reeves and Daniel Berger shot a 153.
In the third flight, David Logve and Kevin Chappell shot 142; Chris George and Sergio Garcia had a 145; Gail Shope and Jimmy Walker finished with a 145; Donnie Lawhorn and Jason Day had a 147; Cecelia Hemn and Ross Fisher shot 148; Tommy Herin and Thomas Petters had a 148; Mark Ruzich and Russell Henley shot 149; Dee Norman and Martin Kaymer had a 150; Ben Williams and Byeong Hun An finished with a 152; James Folsom and Larry Mize shot a 152.
