19-year-old dies when tree falls on Moultrie house

MOULTRIE — Moultrie police are still on scene where a tree fell on a house and killed an occupant.

Police were called to the residence in the 600 block of 13th Avenue Southwest at 2:58 p.m., Moultrie Police Chief Chad Castleberry said, speaking with The Observer by phone just after 4 p.m.

Castleberry said the victim was 19 years old, but his identity is being withheld until all the family has been notified.

The chief said this was the only serious incident he was aware of related to the storm, at least within the city limits.

Colquitt County Emergency Management Director Justin Cox had said earlier in the day there were no injuries from the storm. When contacted about 4 p.m., the fatality was the only incident he mentioned.

“Lots of trees down,” he said by text at 1 p.m. “… Eastern shift has helped us. Cleaning up and waiting on it to move on.”
