Christine Golden

Christine Golden, 69, of Valdosta, died at her home on Monday, Dec. 25, 2006. Born in Florida on Feb. 3, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Grace Brennan and Leroy Johnson Sr. Mrs.  Golden was a homemaker and a Baptist.  

Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Martin and Debbie Golden of Lake Park, Homer and Charlotte Golden of Bainbridge; daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Jimmy Covington of Clyattville, Lois and Lenwood Terrell of Valdosta; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroy and Judy Johnson of Lincoln, Neb., Lewis and Barbara Johnson of Panama City, Fla., Eddie Johnson of Valdosta; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Golden was preceded in death by her husband, Delma O. Golden.  

Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Bruce McCracken will officiate.  The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on today from 6–8 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.



WELLBORN, FLA.

Thomas Clyde Owens

Thomas Clyde Owens, 75, of Wellborn, Fla., passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at the South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, after a long illness. The Wellborn native lived in Wellborn all of his life. He was a member of the Wellborn Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Owens, Wellborn; two daughters, Annette Owens, Valdosta, and Claudia (John) Dew, Tallahassee, Fla.; two sons, Tommy (Emma) Owens and Tim (Sherry) Owens, both of Wellborn; three sisters, Bertha Sharpe, Ocala, Fla., Mary Cushman, Glenn St. Mary, Fla., and Annie Mae (Buck) Allbritton, Wellborn; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Owen and Katherine Dew, Samantha and Christie Owens, Sandy and Shelly Dukes.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Wellborn, with the Rev. John Watkins and the Rev. Lewis Gooch officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. LAKELAND

Elaine Spikes Spells

Elaine Spikes Spells, 59, of Rte. 1, Box 313 Lakeland, passed away at her residence on Monday, Dec. 25, 2006. She was born July 19, 1947, in Ware County to the late Jesse Spikes and Lucille Metts Spikes. She was also preceded in death by a son, Buddy Mullis. She had lived in Lanier County all of her life and attended Guthrie Baptist Church.

She is survived by the following: husband, Casey Spells Lakeland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky Spells Lakeland, Conny and Tammy Mullis, Lakeland; sister, Marie Boyd, Elberton; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave Spikes Elberton, Richard and Suzanne Spikes, Covington, Bear and Schyla Spikes, Lakeland, Rusty and Lanette Spikes, Lakeland, Tommie and Cindy Spikes, Millwood; sister-in-law, JoAnn McLellan, Sparks; four grandchildren, Carey, Kaydee, Cody and Madison Mullis; 12 nephews and three nieces; and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, in the chapel of Music Funeral services with Bro. Jimmy Spikes and Bro. Terry Ford officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William ‘Bill’ Warren

William “Bill” Warren, 69, of Valdosta passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at South Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness.  He was born in Jasper, Fla., on Dec. 29, 1936, to the late J.M. and Lillie (Osburn) Warren. Mr. Warren was a devoted family man who loved stock cars and worked in the pool business for 20 plus years after retiring from the U.S. Air Force. He was Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by Franklin Warren, James M. Warren, John A Warren and Sara Conine.

Survivors include: spouse, Carol Warren, Valdosta; daughters, Debbie, Betty and Christine, all of Florida; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Jimmie Radcliff, Jasper, Fla.; Jean Warren, Jasper, Fla.; brother, Donnie Warren, Live Oak, Fla.; buddies, Sparky and Charlie.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec, 28, 2006, at 2 p.m. in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral Home.

SAVANNAH

Olive Davidson Wofford

Olive Davidson Wofford, 91, of Savannah, and a long-time resident of Remerton, and long-time resident of Azalea Towers in Valdosta, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital in Savannah. She was born on Sept. 13, 1915, in Laurens County to the late John and Minnie Scott Davidson. Mrs. Wofford was a member of New Harvest United Methodist Church and was a textile weaver for more than 50 years and the majority of that time was with Strickland Cotton Mills. Her husband, Noble A. Wofford Sr., preceded her in death on April 11, 1976.

She is survived by two sons, Noble A. Wofford Jr. of Appleton, Wis., and Kent Wofford of Callahan, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Johnny Southerland of Savannah; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Roberta Harrell of Ozark, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the McLane Chapel with the Rev. Beth Bevill officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Raymond E. Yand

Raymond Earl Yand, 41, of Lake Park, died suddenly at his home on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006. Born in Tampa, Fla., on Jan. 18, 1965, he had made his home in Echols County for the past 11 years. He was employed with Bathcraft and attended Antioch Baptist Church. Raymond loved life and enjoyed making people happy. Raymond’s kind and humble love produced a smile that would light the world.

Survivors are his companion, best friend and fishing buddy, Marty Carter of Statenville; sister, Angela Yand of Tampa, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Kimberly Yand of Chillochothe, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and David Cohalla; brother, Randy Butler; sister, Shantell Butler; and aunt, Marcella Johnson, all of Tampa; uncle, Raymond Robinson of Palatka, Fla.; his extended family, Hazel Carter, Clinton and Judy Carter and family of Statenville, Latrelle and Sean Harvey and family of Waycross, Andy Carter of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his mother, Marvadene Robinson; and a brother, Jeff Butler.

Funeral services will be held on today, Dec. 27, 2006, at 4 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. The Rev. Mickey Corbett will officiate. Debra Baldree, 52, of North Augusta, S.C., died Dec. 26, 2006, at Anne Maria Nursing Home, North Augusta, S.C. Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
