Update: Deputy rear-ends another deputy’s vehicle in funeral procession

Two Suwannee County sheriff’s deputies were involved in a crash Sunday afternoon while in a funeral procession, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. 


According to FHP, Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Russell Brian Barrs, 36, Live Oak, was traveling north on CR 795 in the rear of a funeral procession, driving a 2009 Ford Expedition, when he failed to observe the vehicles stopping in front of him and struck the rear of a 2008 Dodge Charger, driven by fellow SCSO Deputy Halford Sherwood Harris, 35, Live Oak.


Both were in a marked patrol vehicle and were on duty.

The incident occurred about .8 miles north of 72nd Trace in Suwannee County around 4:30 p.m.. 
Harris received minor injuries, Barrs received none. Both were wearing seat belts, FHP reported.

No charges were filed, FHP reported.
