Hazmat scare on I-10

A semi carrying nearly six tons of hazardous material leaked 110 gallons of flammable liquid at the eastbound I-10 rest area in Suwannee County last night, according to Suwannee County Fire/Rescue reports. No one was injured.

Just before midnight, SCFR Stations 1, 51, and 32 responded to a report from FHP that liquid was leaking from a semi at the rest area. SCFR arrived and put its recent hazmat training to use, evacuating the area and quickly containing the spill. SCFR coordinated its efforts with FHP, the state Dept. of Transportation and Suwannee County Emergency Management.
