New library program strengthens Live Oak’s music scene

The Suwannee River Regional Library (SRRL) system is starting a new program called SRRL Concerts Live at the Live Oak branch of the SRRL, starting Thursday, Feb. 12. The concert series provides a chance for local artists to reach their community and creates more social evening activities in Live Oak, explained library aide and program developer Casey Wooley.

“I think it’s going to be a really good program,” Wooley said. “I want people who have musical talent to have a place to go to perform.”

The popularity of prior standalone music events at the library, such as January’s Dave Ehlert musician impressionist performance, are a positive indicator of where the SRRL Concerts Live series could go, said Wooley, and he plans to host a concert every month. For now, the program is only held at the Live Oak library but Wooley hopes it could catch on at other libraries in the SRRL system.

The first SRRL Concerts Live event will be held tomorrow, at 6:30 p.m. in the Live Oak library meeting room. Kellen Vincent of Lake City will perform original works and contemporary pop covers on his acoustic guitar.

Admission is free to all concerts and there will be refreshments available. Artists may have CDs or other merchandise for sale.

If you are interested in performing in SRRL Concerts Live or would like more information, please call Casey Wooley at 386-362-2317 or e-mail him at cwooley@neflin.org. The Live Oak Public Library is located at 1848 S. Ohio Ave. in Live Oak.
