COMIC REVIEW: The Mighty Thor: The Asgardian/Shi’ar War
Jason Aaron may well be the person destined to write compelling storylines for “The Mighty Thor.”
From an aged Thor battling a starving Galactus for the fate of a shattered, depopulated Earth to Thor partnering with SHIELD to the on-going saga that has the original Thor divested of his enchanted hammer and going by the monicker of Odinson while a dying Jane Foster is secretly the new Thor worthy of the hammer Mjolnir, Aaron keeps churning out surprises and great fantasy with “The Mighty Thor” title.
With the recently released trade paperback collection “The Mighty Thor: The Asgard/Shi’ar War,” Aaron tells a story that has the Jane Foster thunder god competing with the Shi’ar gods while the Asgardians bring battle to the Shi-ar empire.
Meanwhile, it also marks the return of hammerless Odinson to the pages of “The Mighty Thor” after his stint in his series “Thor the Unworthy.”
“The Asgard/Shi’ar War” is a fun read. It can stand on its own, though readers may want to find the earlier collections of the Jane Foster Thor series to not only understand a few of the sidelights in the storyline but to enjoy the whole thing. For that matter, readers should find the “Thor the Unworthy” collection, too.
All are worthy of the investment of time and money.
