Winnie the Pooh
VALDOSTA — In the first book of “Pooh,” Christopher Robin, Winnie and friends meet new additions to their neighborhood in the Hundred Acre Wood.
Gingerbread Players of Theatre Guild Valdosta presents “Winnie the Pooh,” a stage adaptation by Kristin Sergel of A.A. Milne’s “Winnie-the-Pooh.”
Milne’s first book introduces many of the characters, including Piglet, Eeyore, Owl and Rabbit. In the first book, Kanga and her son, Roo, move into the neighborhood.
Lois Allbritton, the show director, said the Gingerbread production is true to the first book. That means there is no bouncy, bouncy, bouncy Tigger. The toy tiger is not introduced until the second book, “The House at Pooh Corner.”
“I’ve had several people say you should put Tigger into the show but that wouldn’t be true to the first book,” she said.
The show is also a non-musical production.
Gingerbread Players is the children’s theatre arm of Theatre Guild Valdosta. Gingerbread Players features children and youths performing shows for children. Some Gingerbread productions also feature adults but “Winnie the Pooh” is not one of those shows.
The show features a smaller cast of young people, said June Bell, assistant director. She said the children have more moments on stage and more lines.
And they’re doing a great job, she added.
Asked if they’re ready for the show, the young cast yelled they are ready.
