9th Annual S.E.L.F.I.E. Conference to empower young leaders in Valdosta

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Section of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) will host the 9th Annual S.E.L.F.I.E. (Self-Empowerment, Leadership, Finance, Innovation, and Education) Conference, a transformative event designed to equip young men and women ages 15-25, along with their parents, with the tools necessary for academic, career, and financial success.

This year’s theme, “Frame Your Future,” will provide attendees with practical knowledge through expert-led workshops, interactive sessions, and hands-on resources that prepare them for higher education, workforce readiness, and financial independence, according to a press release from the organizers.

The S.E.L.F.I.E. Conference will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the VSU STEAM Center, 1302 N. Patterson St. Admission is free, but limited seats are available. Lunch will be provided, so please RSVP to tinyurl.com/9thannualSELFIE

  • Workshops on FAFSA applications, budgeting for college, resume writing, and interview skills.
  • A parent breakout session led by financial expert Nathaniel Herring, CLU, ChFC, focusing on saving and financial planning for college.

  • Distinguished speakers, including Dr. Shelia Thomas, Nathaniel Herring, and representatives from Wiregrass Technical College.
