Milton Demery Meeks

-- — Milton Demery Meeks, age 87, of Macclenny, Fla. passed away Feb. 27, 2013 at his residence with family by his side. He was born in Valdosta, Ga. on Jan. 5, 1926 to the late Demery Meeks and Audrey Dell Chitty Meeks. He has been a resident of Baker County since 1973 after moving from Jacksonville, Fla. Milton served his country proudly in the United States Navy as a Second Class Seaman in World War II. He retired from Southern Railroad in 1982 after 40 years of employment as a Railroad Engineer and was a member of West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church for the past 48 years. Milton enjoyed woodworking, cooking, and gardening. He was an artist and was known as “Mr. Fix It” because he could fix anything. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Malcom, Raymond, and Norman Meeks; and his son-in-law, William E. Baker.  

Milton is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mable Meeks of Macclenny, Fla.; his daughters, Carol Meeks Baker and Kay Meeks Hall of Macclenny, Fla.; his brother, Frank (Lila) Meeks of Macon, Ga.; his sister, Frances Meeks (Joseph) Lynch of Eaton, N.C.; his grandchildren, Bobby Hall, Pamela Baker Robinson, David “Brian” Hall, and Karen Baker Clifton; his great grandchildren, Kristen Hall, Dylan Hall, Ryan Hall, Shea Robinson, Shanna Robinson, Wyatt Clifton, and Jessie Clifton.  

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church in Jacksonville, Fla. with Pastors Christopher Hall and Logan Mullis officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery at 3 p.m. with military honors. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
