Alma Lee Lancaster
NASHVILLE — Alma Lee Lancaster, 77, of Nashville died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center.
She was born on Oct. 10, 1926, in Berrien County to Joe and Leola Akridge Cowart. She was a homemaker and member of Empire Primitive Baptist Church. She was the widow of Johnny Ethridge Lancaster who died March 11, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ailine Hendley.
She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jean and Dewayne Lanier, Susan and Tommy Nelms, Judy and Doug Rutland, all of Nashville, Sandra and Terry Hansford, Valdosta; four sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Joyce Lancaster Jr., Valdosta, Daryel and Linda Lancaster, Larry and Teresa Lancaster, Randy and Marilyn Lancaster, all of Nashville; 25 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Godwin, Louise Hendley, both of Adel; and four brothers, Albert Cowart, Ben Cowart, both of Adel, Herbert Cowart, Monroe, N.Y., and Glenn Cowart of Adel.
Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Empire Primitive Baptist Church with Elder J.L. Rowan, the Rev. Stan Stalvey and the Rev. Johnny Hendley officiating. Burial will be held in Empire Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 7-9 p.m. — Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville
James Crawford Pittard
HOMERVILLE — James Crawford Pittard, 79, of Homerville passed away Thursday, March 11, 2004, at the Tomball Retirement Center, Tomball, Texas following an extended illness.
A native of Clark County, Ga., he had lived in Clinch County during his early years. He attended the Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was the son of the late Charles W. and Cleveland Baggs Pittard Sr.
Survivors are one sister, Ann Pittard Robbins, Homerville; a special stepdaughter, Dana Scroggins, Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Graveside services for Mr. Pittard will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2004, in Pine Forest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the home of his niece, Jan Rhodes, 105 Holly St., Homerville. — Roundtree Funeral Home, Homerville
Grady Watson Powell
PINETTA, Fla. — Grady Watson Powell, 81, of Pinetta, Fla., died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, in Pinetta, Fla.
Funeral services will be held today, March 13, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel, Madison, Fla. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Lowndes County. He was born in Ousley, Ga., the son of the late Charles Powell and Effie Roberts Powell. He lived in Orlando and Apopka, Fla., for 40 years before moving to Pinetta, Fla., in 1997. He was a graduate of the University of Florida and was superintendent of construction for Hubbard Construction for many years. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Madison Historical Society, Friends of the Mansion and Treasures of Madison County. He was a member of the Pinetta Baptist Church, Pinetta, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Glendon Collette Powell of Pinetta, Fla.; one son, Grady Watson Powell II and wife Chong Hwa of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Glendon Powell Peaden and husband Jack of Apopka, Fla.; two grandchildren, Andrew Jackson Peaden III and wife Tammy of Apopka, Fla., and Eric Alexander Powell of Austin, Texas; one great-grandson, Andrew Jackson Peaden IV of Apopka, Fla. Sydney B. Wilson
VALDOSTA — Sydney B. Wilson, 85, of Valdosta passed away Friday, March 12, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was born in Lanier County and had lived most of her life in Valdosta. She was Baptist by faith. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband Markis A. Wilson.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Joe Stedman, Alameda, Calif., Lee Roy and June Cooley, Bakersfield, Calif.; grandsons, Ricky Nereu and Jeffery Cooley, both of Calif.; five sisters, Edna Player, Luella Smith, Pat Wallis, Linzie Hansford, all of Valdosta, Reba Mae Simpson, Statenville; brother, Roy Brady of Valdosta; and a number of nieces and nephews.
