Nancy Starling Hill

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Nancy Starling Hill, 68, a medical technician, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, in Sevierville, Tenn.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. EDT Saturday at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park in Tallahassee. Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel (850-877-8191) is handling arrangements.

Ms. Hill was a native of Nashville, Ga., and a member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church in Tallahassee.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Jane Hill; two sons, Craig Ashley Hill (and wife Aneeta) and Wade Rowland Hill (and wife Debbie); five grandchildren, Cole, Chance, Stephen, Brandon and Callie; and a very special friend, her former husband, Gene Ashley Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Wardlaw Starling and Nancy Coleman; and her stepfather, Jack Coleman. — Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee, Fla.



Anne Quinney Murray

VALDOSTA — Anne Quinney Murray, 77, of Valdosta, formerly of Buena Vista, died at Langdale Place in Valdosta on Aug. 25, 2004, after a sudden illness. She was born in Augusta on July 16, 1927, the daughter of the late Gray Quinney and Madge Saunders Quinney of Waynesbora. She graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1948. Later that year, she married Edward Newton Murray Jr. of Buena Vista. In 1969, they became the owners of Staten Plantation in Lowndes County and remodeled the Staten homeplace. Anne was a member of First Baptist Church of Buena Vista, a homemaker, past president of the W.M.U. and worked as a nurse’s aide at Marion Memorial Hospital which her husband was instrumental in founding. She had lived in Buena Vista since her marriage until she moved to Lowndes County eight years ago.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gray and Dianne Murray of Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters and a son-in -law, Marcia Alexander, Madge and Bill Culbreth, all of Valdosta; eight grandchildren, Daniel and Cary Murray, Kimberly and William Siegel, Katherine Murray and John Murray, all of Birmingham, Casey Alexander, Kelly and Mark Matheny, Lauren Culbreth and Lesley Culbreth, all of Valdosta. Her newest joys included twin great-grandsons, Ben and Grayton Murray of Birmingham. Minnie Carter of Valdosta was a special friend and companion during her last 18 months.

Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, in the Buena Vista Cemetery with the Rev. Craig Rikard of Valdosta officiating. The family will remain at the cemetery after the service to receive friends, as well as at the home of Carol Murray following the service. Myrtle Irene ‘Renie’ Smith

VALDOSTA — Myrtle Irene “Renie” Smith, 38, of Valdosta, died on Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on Aug. 27, 1965, in Valdosta, she was the daughter of Clara Vann Williams and the late Leo Williams.

Survivors are her daughter, April Smith of Valdosta; sisters, Martha Jackson, Judy Pittman, both of Valdosta; and a brother and sister-in-law Johnny and Kathy Williams of Valdosta; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Williams.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., today, Aug. 26, 2004, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Mickey Corbett officiating. Burial will follow in the Joe Howell Cemetery. Dorothy Lee Whitley Watson

FITZGERALD — Dorothy Lee Whitley Watson, 79, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at Dorminy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with the Rev. James Hubbard and the Rev. Howard Kitchens officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 27 in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Forest Park. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Watson was born April 22, 1925, in Ben Hill County, to the late Reason H. and Edna Cody Whitely. She moved to Fitzgerald in July 2000. Mrs. Watson was a representative for Avon, a former employee of Lowell Packing Company and Dixie Peanut Company. She was a member of the Church Of the Nazarene in Fitzgerald and the Gospel Harvester in Stockbridge. Mrs. Watson was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Watson is survived by one daughter and one son, Ann Kitchens, Stockbridge, and Lamar Watson, Naylor; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; five sisters and two brothers, Betty Cooley, Carolyn Johnson, Bobbie Brown and Johnny Whitley, all of Fitzgerald, Sara Craft and Bernice Helms, both of Abbeville, and Ronnie Whitley, Tifton; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Watson; a granddaughter, Suzanne Haney; and two brothers.

Samuel Harmon Morris

Samuel Harmon Morris, 72, of Valdosta, formerly of Daytona Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center after a long illness. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
