Janice Claire Heckelman
VALDOSTA — Janice Claire Heckelman, 58, of Valdosta died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 22, 1945, in Stockton, Calif., and had lived in North Carolina before moving to Valdosta three weeks ago. She attended Seasons Church.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Adam and Joy Heckelman of Naples, Fla., Robb and Belinda Rich of Valdosta, Lonnie and Hope Heckelman of Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren, Nathan, Bobby, Lance, Dylan, Steven and Candice; her father, Jack Heckelman of Avon Park, Fla.; one sister, Laura Stanlick of Winter Haven, Fla.; and one brother, Robert McGarth of Ocala, Fla. She was preceded in death by her mother Joan Eckstein Beakes.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., today, Jan. 21 at Seasons Church with Pastor Lee Barnes officiating. — Carson McLane Funeral Home
Eason James Hines Sr.
QUITMAN — Eason James Hines Sr., 70, of Quitman died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Archbold Hospital after a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Brooks County, he was the son of Harrison and Martha Jane Eason Hines. He was a retired barber, member of Baptist faith and member of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Dolly Hines of Quitman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Zee Anne (Jerry) Meetze of Jacksonville, Fla., Teresa (David) Jones of Valdosta; and one son, Eason “Scooter” Hines Jr., Quitman; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 in Oak Hill Cemetery with David Jones officiating. — Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home
Thomas ‘Tom’ Jones
VALDOSTA– Thomas “Tom” Jones, 67, of Valdosta, passed away early Saturday morning, Jan. 17, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Fairview, Tenn., and had lived in Valdosta since 1979. Mr. Jones attended the Eastern Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Sexton.
Survivors include his wife, Dean Jones of Valdosta; two daughters and son-in-law, Pam Cornelius, Valdosta, Stacy (Jones) and Robert Boggs, Douglas; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Daphne Jones, Waycross; grandchildren, Thomas Perdue, Matthew Jones, Schuyler Kenzel, Allison Cornelius, Alexandra Jones, Britton Jones and Dilan Boggs; stepgrandson, Dustin Boggs; four brothers, Ewell Jones, Vernon Jones, Bill Jones, Lloyd Buttrey, all of Fairview, Tenn.; sister, Cecile Jeffreys, Coffeeville, Miss.

Aza Dell Plymel
VALDOSTA — Aza Dell Plymel, 76, of Valdosta, died on Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center. A lifetime resident of the area, she was born on Feb. 6, 1927, to the late Oscar and Josephine Griffis Allen. Mrs. Plymel fostered 18 children over the years and was a member of Pentecostal Deliverance Center in Jennings, Fla.
She is survived by five daughters and three sons-in-law, Jane Zipperer of Valdosta, Lavern Hall of Statenville, Angie and Ray Adams of Statenville, Robbie and Don Brooker of Quitman, Teresia and Bill Morrell of Valdosta; five grandchildren, Larry Hall, Melissa Layman, Kenneth Spradley, Christopher Adams, all of Statenville, Edward Adams of Cherokee, Ala.; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Plymel was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon L. Plymel; three sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Edgar Wood of Live Oak, Fla., officiating. Lucille T. Sumner
ADEL — Lucille T. Sumner, 86, of Adel passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Adel Memorial Convalescent Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born on July 7, 1917, to the late Roy and Gertrude Gibbs Tyson. Mrs. Sumner was a lifetime resident of Cook County. She owned and operated Lucy’s Beauty Shop for 42 years. Mrs. Sumner was a member of the Eastern Star and Woodman of the World.
She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Debbie and Randy Martin of Valdosta, Joan Tyson of Peachtree City, and Lynda Sumner, Rifle, Colo.; one daughter-in-law, Cecilia Sumner of High Springs, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Paul Tyson of Peachtree City, Pam Tyson of Duluth, Susan Emerson of Alachua, Fla., Marsha Barnard of Cucula, Ga., Melinda Ramer of Alpharetta, Tonya Sumner of Rifle, Colo., Tana Sumner, Rifle, Colo., April Andersen of Parachute, Colo., and Autumn Davis of Valdosta; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Dorothy Tyson of Albany; one sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Henry Giddens of Adel; two sisters-in-law, Nell Tyson of Ft. Pierce, Fla.. and Sarah Tyson of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; several number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence (C.W.) Sumner; one son, James W. (Billy) Sumner; three brothers, J.W. Tyson, S.J. Tyson and Norman Tyson; one sister, Eula B. Shealey.
