Avery and Gaylord win 2003 pageant

A very surprised Live Oak teenager was crowned Miss Suwannee Valley 2003-2004 August 23 after some stiff competition between four beautiful and talented contestants.
Meghan Avery, the daughter of Nell Brady and Richard Avery, was crowned Miss Suwannee Valley 2003/2004. Avery, 19, is a 2002 graduate of Suwannee High and is employed at Love and Learn. She plans to attend North Florida Community College and later FSU where she wants to obtain her masters in elementary education.
Also receiving a crown was Little Miss Suwannee Valley Skyler Gaylord, 5, daughter of Jamie and Terri Gaylord of Live Oak.
First runner-up in the Miss Suwannee Valley contest was Kristin Fewell, 21. Fewell is the daughter of Rick and Susan Fewell of Tallahassee and John and Trannie Lacquey of Branford. She is a senior at FSU obtaining a double major in recreation and leisure studies/dance. She has been a majorette for the FSU Marching Chiefs for the past three years, serving as head majorette in her third year. In the event Avery is unable to serve for any reason as queen, Fewell will be called upon to serve in her place.
Other winners in the Miss Suwannee Valley contest were, Nancee Bass McMillan Congeniality Award, Katie Scott; Dorothy Harris Dependable Congeniality Award, Meghan Avery, Miss Photogenic, Stormy Cheek and top ad seller, Meghan Avery.
Miss Suwannee Valley contest is sponsored by the Suwannee River Woman’s Club to help raise funds to carry out their charitable giving during the year.
A generous prize package for Miss Suwannee Valley consists of a crown, trophy and sash, $1,250 scholarship to the college of their choice from the Suwannee River Woman’s Club and a gift from the president of the Suwannee River Woman’s Club. She also received a dozen roses from Celebration.
In addition, the following businesses provide additional prizes: Walt’s Live Oak Ford, Hometown Jewelry and Loan, Howard Street Dry Cleaners Photos N’ A Flash, Suwannee Glass, Merle Norman, Hot Spots, Custom Illusionz, Gill Tire, Live Oak Jewelry, Avon, Mirror Images, Natural Nails, Sears, Heavenly Bodies, Brad’s Auto Detail, Suwannee Democrat, Better Basic and Health and Nobles Greenhouse.
First runner-up in the Little Miss Suwannee Valley contest was Aubrey Stapleton; Second runner-up, Ashlyn Hurst; Third runner-up, BreeAnn Smith; Miss Photogenic, Kamdyn Kvistad and top ad seller, Aubrey Stapleton.
Little Miss Suwannee Valley receives a crown, trophy and sash from the Suwannee River Woman’s Club, a president’s gift from the president of the Suwannee River Woman’s Club, a half dozen roses from Live Oak Florist and one year of free dance lessons from The Dance Shop. All contests in the Little Miss Suwannee Valley receive a trophy and gifts from the following businesses: Beverage Barn, Dr. Craig, Dairy Queen, Ralph’s Birdland, Little Caesars, First Federal Savings Bank, Len Stapleton/Initially Yours, Jackie’s Formal Wear, Dr. Mantooth, Red Lobster, PCS Phosphate, Publix, the National Guard, Movie Gallery, Live Oak Bowling Alley, Gold Kist and Quality Plus Communications.
