Man nabbed on drug, weapon charges

A Mayo man was arrested on multiple drug and weapon charges as the result of a felony arrest warrant from a previous drugs and weapons arrest in December 2011 in Alachua County, authorities say.

On March 14 at approximately 10:35 p.m. Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office deputies pursued Antonio Maxwell Jones, 25, Mayo, for a felony warrant involving weapons charges, according to Sheriff Brian Lamb.
Reports show that Jones left his residence located at 3589 W. US 27 in Lafayette County and was stopped a short distance later. Jones was arrested on a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and providing false information to obtain a firearm.
“During the traffic stop, drug paraphernalia was located on Jones and in the vehicle,” Lamb stated. “Deputies also recovered approximately a quarter pound of marijuana in several different bags.”
Jones was in possession of almost $1,000 in cash. He was also charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a motor vehicle during the commission of a felony. The LCSO seized the vehicle Jones was driving for a forfeiture, reports state.
On Dec. 24, Jones was arrested in High Springs on drugs and weapons charges and he was out on a bond of $125,000 when Lafayette County deputies arrested him March 14.
