VALDOSTA — Psychics are a controversial group who have been scrutinized for centuries.
Skeptics feel it’s all an elaborate ruse while groups of believers flock for their readings.

Sister Bishop is familiar with both groups. She began her psychic practices in Valdosta in 1969 after falling in love with the small town charm.
With 50 years of experience, it has become Sister Bishop’s full time job. Her prices vary based on what the client is interested in with a regular reading starting at $40. Services offered include tarot card readings, palm readings, psychic readings, aura cleansing and more.
“I feel I was born this way,” Bishop said. “When I was a teenager I felt I could feel certain things about some people. I worked to develop it so I could do readings for everyone.”
This “gift” Bishop believes she has allows her to get a reading on people. She said that allows her to help the person better understand themselves. While there may be parts of the past, present and future in the readings, it is mostly focused on allowing someone to become more in-tune with themselves, she explained.
Sessions involve Bishop getting a reading from a person then telling them what has come to her. From this method, there is no way of knowing exactly what a client will receive, she said. As Bishop further explained, trying to elaborate or tell one individual will experience is almost impossible as it varies.
Over the years, she has developed a base of repeat clientele along with a steady flow of curious first timers. She explains that this serves as a form of therapy for some. Bishop is aware of the many skeptics, but she has been able to change some minds after readings.

“There’s no way for people to know until they come try it for themselves,” Bishop said.
Bishop also feels that “gifts” are something people are born with and cannot be learned through study. There is no formal schooling for psychics.
Evolving the craft comes through meetings with other psychics and coming to better understand one’s personal abilities, she said.
For this married mother of five, being a psychic is just a regular part of her every day life. She accepts appointments at her home at 2120 West Hill Avenue just like any other business woman would.
Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are strongly suggested to ensure she will be available. She can be reached at (229)244-1306.
