A Suwannee Correctional Institution Annex (SCIA) inmate, Darnel D. Manuel, was recently charged with attempted murder after he stabbed another inmate in February, according to Department of Corrections records.

On Feb. 13, 22-year-old Manuel, also known as “Peewee,” was in the middle of serving a five year sentence for robbery, battery and weapons-related charges stemming from St. Lucie County offenses. While in the SCIA recreation yard, Manuel reportedly stabbed an inmate in the neck with a “shank,” or improvised sharpened weapon, while the victim was standing in line at the SCIA barber shop.

After the stabbing, Manuel allegedly gave the shank to another inmate who buried it in the yard. The weapon was later recovered by officers, according to DOC.

DOC records indicate the victim and Manuel knew each other and that Manuel’s attack was seemingly intended to kill the victim.

Manuel was detained in the Suwannee County Jail on June 4 for court, according to jail records. He is charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
