Catherine Marcile Perkins Powers was born Dec. 11, 1922, to James Willie Perkins and Ollie Mae Caldwell Perkins of Jasper, Florida, where she lived most of her life. She passed away March 19, 2015 in Opelika, Alabama.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ryland Camp Powers and Janice Powers of Auburn, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hemman Powers of Bradenton, Fla. and five grandchildren, Lisa Peterson (Harry) of Auburn, Tracy Kidd of Dothan, Jim Powers of Washington State, Dana Raffaelli (Stephen) of Alexandria, Virginia and Marcile Perkins Powers of St. Petersburg, Fla.; six great grandchildren, Calvin, Caleb and Colby Kidd, Grant Peterson, Abigail and Trey Rafaelli.

She is also survived by brothers, Raymond Perkins, New Port News, Virginia and Bruce Perkins (Elvia) of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; sisters, Joyce Snow, of Chester, Maryland, Gwendolyn Perkins, Macclenny, Fla. and Dorothy Johnson, Tavares, Fla.;  also several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

Marcile was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Powers Jr., son, James P. “Dutch” Powers III and sisters, Anna Ruth Terry and Mary Nell Powers.

Memorial services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2015 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL.

No flowers are requested as your presence will be appreciation enough.

Velma Deese Jordan

Nov. 19, 1931 – June 15, 2015

Velma Deese Jordan, 83, passed away Monday, June 15, 2015 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, following a short illness.

Mrs. Jordan was born Nov. 19, 1931, in Bonifay, Fla. to the late Willie B. Deese and Sallie Lee Hallford Deese. She was a member of the DuPont Full Gospel Mission, a homemaker and was retired from Brockway Standard. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Rev, Johnny Deese and Junior Deese and a twin sister: Thelma Morgan.

Survivors are her husband: Alfred Jordan, Homerville; one daughter: Jan Touchton, Homerville; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Troy Allen & Regina Jordan, Jasper, Fla. and Lamar Jordan, Homerville; 10 grandchildren: Tammy & Wayne Roundtree, Nicole & Stanley Raffield, Al & Elizabeth Jordan, Tony & Anisa Jordan, Candy & Josh Heath, Brandi & Jimmy Howell, Dalton Jordan, Kevin & Melanie Touchton, Scott & April Touchton and Misty Griffis, 21 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and a number nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jordan were held Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at eleven o’clock in the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church.

Interment was in the Shiloh Church Cemetery.

The family received friends, Tuesday, June 16, 2015, from 6 til 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Jordan was carried to the church one hour prior to the services.

William Arvel Drury, Jr. “Bill”

Jan. 1, 1959 – June 13, 2015

William Arvel Drury Jr. “Bill”, age 56, of Jasper, Fla., passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born in Valdosta, Georgia on Jan. 1, 1959 and made his home in Jasper most of his life. He attended Valwood School in Valdosta and graduated from Hamilton County High School. He attended college at Lake City Community College and Valdosta State. Bill was a longtime employee at Hamilton Correctional Institution in Jasper and then went to work for the Hamilton County Road Department until his health declined. You could find Bill most any evening doing what he enjoyed most and that was just riding the roads of Hamilton County often stopping to visit with friends. He loved his family and friends and in return he leaves behind many that love him and will miss him dearly. Bill was predeceased by his father, William Arvel Drury Sr.

Survivors include his daughter, Holly Drury Galloway of Live Oak, Fla. and his son, William Arvel Drury III “Will” of Ashburn, Georgia; his mother, Willene Willis Drury, Jasper, Fla.; a sister, Stephanie Drury Carter (Rodney), Smithfield, N.C.; and two precious grandchildren, Lacey and Taylor Galloway.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Jasper, Fla. with Pastor Dale Ames and Pastor Danny Henderson officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Travis L. Reid

June 12, 2015

Travis L. Reid, age 29, of White Springs, Florida departed this walk of life Friday, June 12, 2015. Travis will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and all that knew him. Service of love and remembrance will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at Jesus the Living Word of Deliverance. Kathy Hawkins is the pastor and Pastor Bernard L. Robinson will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Eastside Memorial Cemetery, White Springs, Florida. The Reid family will receive other relatives and sorrowing friends Friday, June 19 from 5-7 p.m.  at New Bethel A.M.E. Church in White Springs, Florida. Ervin Burch Mitchell

May 31, 1929 – June 5, 2015

Ervin Burch Mitchell, age 86, of Jasper, Fla., passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper. Burch was born on May 31, 1929 to the late Charles M. and Ethel Murray Mitchell. He graduated from the University of Florida and moved to Chicago where he lived for many years. Burch was a commercial artist and also worked many years in retail sales at Marshall Field’s Department Store.  He was an aviation enthusiast and became a licensed pilot. Burch served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jasper. He will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man. Burch was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Charles M. Mitchell, Jr. and a sister, Marajo.

Survivors include nephews and nieces and numerous cousins.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Pastor Sheldon Steen officiating.
