VALDOSTA — Downtown Valdosta Restaurant Week kicks off Monday for a week-long celebration of all the fine dining Downtown Valdosta has to offer.

“This is a perfect opportunity to sample everything if you’re not already familiar with downtown restaurants, or even if you are,” said Missy Smith, Valdosta Main Street coordinator.

Starting at 5 p.m. Monday on the lawn of the historic Lowndes County Courthouse, participants can buy a bracelet for $20 that lets them try food at each of the nine participating restaurants: Grassroots Coffee, Covington’s, 306 North, King’s Grill, Steel Magnolias, Bleu Pub, Bleu Cafe, The Bistro and Jessie’s Restaurant and Catering.

Throughout the week, each of the nine restaurants will offer a Restaurant Week menu that offers a three-course meal giving diners a taste of what the restaurant has to offer.

“I really enjoy restaurant weeks because it is meant to drive people into the heart of where their community started,” said Keira Moritz, owner of Steel Magnolias. “This is a great opportunity for Steel Magnolias and other downtown restaurants to have fun with our guests, an opportunity to bring folks into the restaurant that haven’t eaten here before and also a chance to treat our regulars to a different and fun menu at a great price.”

For Downtown Valdosta Restaurant Week, Moritz has developed a menu that changes throughout the week. One night’s menu might feature pulled pork deviled eggs, breaded eggplant with sauteed spinach and roasted tomatoes and a slice of coconut rum cake.

The next, braised beef short rib with mashed potatoes and grilled corn, paired with house-made flatbread and blueberry lemon cake.

“We’d really like to have folks come out more than one night because they are able to have a different prix fixe (fixed price) menu the next night and try something new and different,” said Moritz. “We’d like everyone to check out what we have, and then eat next night at 306 North or the Bleu Cafe and really experience the downtown community and what all the downtown restaurants are offering.”
