U-R update

The results of Milledgeville’s 2017 city elections are official.

After a day of ensuring that the tallies recorded in Tuesday’s voting, which featured contested races for mayor, City Council District 5, and the Georgia Military College Board of Trustees, Baldwin County Election Superintendent Todd Blackwell released the certified results to the Thursday afternoon.

In the most important and most closely contested of Tuesday’s races, Mary Parham-Copelan defeated incumbent Gary Thrower to become Milledgeville’s first female mayor, 833 votes to 828.

In City Council District 5, 17-year City Councilman Richard Mullins defended his seat from challenger Harry Keim, 254 votes to 101.

In the race for the GMC Board of Trustees District 6 seat, Mike Cobb bested Calvin Hill 436 to 189.

The totals reflected one provisional vote each for Thrower and Cobb, which were counted Wednesday after officials verified incorrect information in their voter’s files. Under state election law, Thrower is eligible to request a recount of Tuesday’s vote, and has until today to do so.
