Gas prices in South Georgia creep upward

VALDOSTA — The price of gasoline in South Georgia inched upward slightly in the last week, following national trends.
The average cost of a gallon of gasoline in Valdosta Wednesday was $2.87, up a penny over seven days, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
The lowest price reported for gasoline in the Azalea City Wednesday was $2.78 per gallon at a Bemiss Road retailer, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.
— The lowest fuel price reported in Tifton Wednesday was $2.89 per gallon at an East 20th Street store.
— The lowest gas price reported Wednesday in Thomasville was $2.85 per gallon at an East Pinetree Boulevard location.
— The lowest gas price reported Wednesday in Moultrie was $2.83 at a store on Veterans Parkway.
Valdosta had the fourth-highest average gasoline price Wednesday among the 15 Georgia markets monitored by the auto club: below Savannah, Hinesville and Athens but above Warner Robins, Rome, Macon, Gainesville, Dalton, Columbus, Catoosa, Brunswick, Augusta, Atlanta and Albany.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline Wednesday was $3.13 per gallon, up a cent from the previous week, while Georgia’s average of $2.95 per gallon was down two cents in the same time period, AAA said.
“We are about halfway through winter, so there may be fewer seasonal spikes at the pump,” Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson.
