POLICE BEAT: Man threatens, beats family member with shotgun, say authorities

A Branford man was arrested Sunday at his home after threatening a family member with a shotgun then beating the individual with it, according to a Suwannee County Sheriff’s report.

According to the report, Dana Carl Douglas Sr., 58, was intoxicated and became involved in a dispute with the victim. He retrieved a single barrel shotgun, pointed it at the individual, and said he would shoot, the report stated.

Douglas reportedly then struck the victim multiple times in the head and torso with the barrel and butt of the shotgun.

A third party at the scene told Douglas he needed to calm down, at which point, Douglas grabbed a loaded handgun and pointed it at that person, stating, “Open your mouth again and I will blow you head off Big Boy,” according to the report.

That man fled the residence and called 911 stating that Douglas had threatened him, saying, “I will ****ing kill all of y’all.”

A fourth man, who was sleep at the residence and awoke while Douglas was striking the family member, said he fled when Douglas grabbed the handgun.

Douglas was booked Sunday and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of domestic violence with a weapon, and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
