Bank in Tifton closed, taken over by Ameris Bank

Tifton Banking Co. was closed Friday by the Georgia Department of Banking & Finance and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation has been named receiver, according to the FDIC’s website.

All deposit accounts have been transferred to Ameris Bank and will be available immediately. The former Tifton Banking Co. will reopen as a branch of Ameris Bank during regular business hours.
Ameris is also acquiring another failed Georgia bank, Darby Bank & Trust Co. of Vidalia, but the two closed institutions were not affiliated with each other.
The parking lot at Tifton Banking Co.’s Second Street office was full of vehicles Friday evening as the changeover apparently took place.
According to an FDIC press release, Tifton Banking had total assets of $143.7 million as of Sept. 30 and total deposits of $141.6 million.
