Three injured in hit-and-run

- This Honda crashed into a stand of trees off I-75 recently after being involved in a hit-and-run accident.
Three local people were injured in a hit-and-run accident on I-75 in Alachua County on Friday, Nov. 16, according to information received Wednesday from the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the FHP, around 1 p.m., Karen Jacobs, 22, of Mayo, was driving north on I-75 in the left lane near mile marker 391 in Alachua County when another vehicle, described as a black Ford F-150 pickup, went to change lanes and hit the right rear of Jacobs’ vehicle. The 2000 Honda spun out of control and traveled off I-75 to the the east shoulder, according to the FHP. The Honda then went up an embankment and struck several trees. The Ford left the scene and witnesses were unable to get a license plate number.
According to the FHP, Jacobs and passengers Jackie Howze, 22, and James Howze, 23, both of Wellborn, were injured and transported to Shands UF in Gainesville.
Jacobs told the Democrat that she is still healing from her injuries.
“I’m still on crutches and still not able to use my left leg,” she said.
Her friends are still recovering from various injuries.
