Unofficial results: Suwannee County

Suwannee County voters decided that Republican candidate Mitt Romney is the better suitor for the White House, but as of press time it wasn’t clear if the rest of the nation felt the same way. 


Locally, incumbent Jerry Scarborough retained his seat as superintendent of schools. He beat Republican contender David Laxton 8,815 votes to 8,319.


Republican Jeff Siegmeister was chosen by Suwannee voters to fill the Third Circuit State Attorney seat being vacated in January by Democrat Skip Jarvis. Siegmeister won Suwannee County over Democrat Bill Brannon 10,800 votes to 6,222. Whether Siegmeister won the circuit was not made available at press time. 


Democrat Tony Cameron will remain sheriff of Suwannee County, at least for another four years. He bested nonpartisan candidate Fred Martin, 13,550 votes to 3,078.


For property appraiser, Lamar Jenkins retained his seat over Republican candidate Neal Wright, 10,310 votes to 6,879.


Republican candidate Jason Bashaw won the county commission District 1 seat over Walter Starling, 2,269 votes to 1,641.


Ricky Gamble Jr., Republican, beat out Paul Gamble, Democrat and Jennifer Elizabeth Collins, nonpartisan, 2,088, 1,294 and 395 votes, respectively. 


In the county commission race for District 5, Wesley Wainwright kept his seat over Democratic contender Kevin Williams, 2,744 votes to 1,664.


Catherine Cason beat incumbent Muriel Owens for the District 2 representative for school board. Cason beat Owens, 759 votes to 728. 


Wes Douglas received 13,328 votes from Suwannee County for Circuit Judge, Group 5. The only other candidate was Angela Cancio as a write-in. The numbers for Cancio were 802.


Republican Ted Yoho (12,547 votes) easily won Suwannee County for the District 3 representative in congress. He won Suwannee over J.R. Gaillot, Democrat (4,063 votes) and Philip Dodds, NPA (518 votes).


Connie Mack (10,440 votes) won Suwannee County for United States Senator. He won Suwannee over incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson (6,250 votes).

Supervisor of Elections Glenda Williams said there are several provisional ballots yet to count so the numbers could change.
