A  third person has been arrested in the first degree murder case of Frank Carl Jones III, which occurred on May 18, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). Sierra Shartay Gandy, 24, Jennings, was picked up on a warrant for accessory to murder after the fact on Tuesday, Oct. 28, by HCSO. Gandy’s arrest was combined with another warrant on an unrelated charge for forging a check at the Jennings Mini Mart, which was issued by the Jennings Police Department.

Around noon on Sunday, May, 18, Jones was reportedly shot by Daphedron Lamar Allen, 34, Jasper, while he sat on the front porch of his Jasper residence. According to HCSO Sheriff Harrell Reid, Allen had been involved in an altercation the previous day and shortly after midnight he arrived at Jones’s residence. Witnesses said gunfire erupted from the bushes across the street. One of those bullets struck Jones and he died at the scene. Two other men, David Washington and Louis Ash were also injured during the gunfire, but were treated and released by EMS at the scene.

Meanwhile, Allen had fled the area, but was later arrested without incident at a Lake Park motel where he had been dropped off by Gandy, his former girlfriend. He was booked into Lowndes County Jail on charges of second degree murder (Fla.) and fugitive from justice (Ga.). He later waived his right to extradition and was transported to the Hamilton County Jail.

The investigation continued and authorities said additional arrests were possible. A reward was also offered for information on the location of the weapon used in the shooting. To date, the murder weapon has still not been found, according to Sheriff Reid.

By the time the case came before the grand jury on July 25, the charges against Allen were amended by capias and he was indicted on first degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Two other individuals were also indicted in the case that same day; Sipp Pierce, 35, Lake City, who was a friend of Allen’s, and Gandy. Both were charged with accessory after the fact to first degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and shooting into an occupied vehicle, for the assistance they provided Allen in his attempts to evade apprehension by law enforcement.

According to Reid, Gandy’s arrest was delayed because she had recently given birth to twins, of which Allen is the father.
