Garland Raymond Cason
TIFTON — Garland Raymond Cason, 67, of Tifton, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. He was born on Oct. 3, 1934, in Adel to the late J.W. and Edith Cross Cason. He lived 32 years in Tifton, formerly of Adel. Mr. Cason worked for Ford Motor Company for 21 years in Adel and Tifton, was employed at Tift Regional Medical Center and served in the U.S. Marines in the Korean War. He was a member of the NRA Club, Tifton Firearms Association; 13 years with the Royal Rangers and also worked with Boy Scouts for another 12 to13 years. He was a leader of Boy Scout Troop No. 321 sponsored by American Legion Post No. 21, Tifton, a deacon in First Assembly of God in Adel and Tifton where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Cowboy Renegades in Pinetta, Fla., and was a member of First Assembly of God, Tifton. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Cason. He is survived by his wife, Betty Watson Cason of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Elaine and Roger Parsons of Apollo Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Brook Alan Dekker, Chicago, Ill., and Bianca Adele Broussard and Jedidiah, Apollo Beach, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, James Howard and Lequetta Cason of Albany; one nephew, Barry James Cason, Albany; and great-nephew, James Cason of Cairo. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Assembly of God with the Rev. Eddie Hutcheson and the Rev. Clifford Coursey officiating. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Adel. Pallbearers will be Horace Baldree, Daniel Cassidy, Merrell Drawdy, Lynwood Denham, T.D. Padgett and Allen Peugh. Honorary pallbearers will be Senior Citizens of First Assembly of God, Tifton, Boy Scout Leaders and members of the Boy Scouts. Wesley Ren Christie, Lt. Col. USMC, Ret.
VALDOSTA — Wesley Ren Christie, Lt. Col. USMC, Ret., 84, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on Jan. 13, 1918, in Parrott, Terrell County, he was the son of the late D.W. and Mary Christie. He served 24 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. His duties included Commanding Officer of the Marine Detachment of the USS Quincy during World War II at Normandy and escorting President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to the Yalta Conference. He received four degrees from the University of Georgia including his EdD. A member of First United Methodist Church, Colonel Christie served on the Administrative Board and taught Sunday School. He retired as professor and Head Emeritus of the Department of Communication Arts at Valdosta State College. Active in the Valdosta Rotary Club, he was past president, secretary for many years, editor of the Bulletin and first recipient of the Four Avenues of Service Award. Colonel Christie was also active with the Boy Scouts of America and the Valdosta Touchdown Club. Survivors are his wife, the former Connie Kinsler of Valdosta; sons, Wesley R. (Carolyn) Christie II of Cumming, Ricky R. (Joy) Christie of Colorado Springs, Colo.; granddaughters, Katrell Christie of Atlanta, Kathleen Renee Christie of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Ben Christie, and a sister, Ellen Abrams. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church. Dr. Charles P. Lillie Frances Daniels
VALDOSTA — Lillie Frances Daniels, 63, of Valdosta, was one of eight children born to the late W.D. and Lillie Bell Daniels. She received her education in the Lowndes County School system. She furthered her education at Savannah State College and Albany State College. She retired from Nashville Mills in Nashville after 27 years of loyal service. She was a faithful member of Mt. Vienna A
ME Church. She was associated and dedicated with various activities of the church and served as president of the Senior Choir. She expired Sept. 20, 2002, at the Kindred Hospital in Atlanta. She leaves one daughter, Cynthia Elaine (Lee) Ellis of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Evelyn LaShaun, Lee Jr., and Erin Renee Ellis, all of Atlanta; two loving and devoted sisters, Mary L. Simmons and Gussie Mae Guyton, both of Valdosta; one aunt, Ora Lee Harrell of Valdosta; three uncles, Marshall Daniels and J.C. Daniels, both of Valdosta, and Benjamin Daniels of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and also a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25 at the Mt. Vienna AME Church. The Rev. Eugene Foster, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Mary Janice Dupree
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Mary Janice Dupree, 69, of Jacksonville, passed away early Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center following a brief illness. Janice was born in Quitman to the late Jasper Thomas Bridges and Addie Bell Bridges and was a former resident of Jasper, Fla. The last 40 years of her life, she made her home in Jacksonville and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jasper. Mrs. Dupree was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Emmett Lee Dupree Jr. Survivors include two sons, Earl David Brooks (Beverly) of Jacksonville and Ashley Thomas Brooks (Kathleen) of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Mary Jacquelyn Brooks Busch (Wayne), Gainesville, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia B. Chandler and Marilyn B. Sabin, both of Jasper, Fla.; three grandchildren, Christopher David Brooks, Andrew Patrick Brooks and Rachel Elizabeth Brooks; and her mother-in-law, Jimmie Byrd Dupree of Jacksonville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25 at First United Methodist Church in Jasper. Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum in Evergreen Cemetery. Marian Lee Lanier
LAKE PARK — Marian Lee Lanier, 63, of Lake Park, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, after a lengthy illness. She was born on Feb. 6, 1939, in Oakland, Calif., to Dorthea J. Beenders and the late Claire Doggett. Mrs. Lanier was of the Church of Christ faith. She is survived by a special friend, Lynwood R. Mathis, Lake Park; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sharon and Vernon Walters, Atlanta, Ginny Merlo, Miami, Fla., Patricia and Bill Dew, Zephyrhills, Fla.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Pete and Tommie Lanier, Jasper, Fla., Donald Richard Lanier, Lake Park, Michael and Debbie Lanier, Union City; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; mother, Dorothea J. Beaudan; brother, Donald Richard Beaudan; sister, Claire Winkle, all of Grants Pass, Ore.; and a sister-in-law, Louise Clum of Eugene, Ore. Her husband, Pinckney Kirkland Lanier III and stepfather, Adolph Richard Beaudan preceded her in death. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Funeral services for Blanche Lillian Smith, 71, of Jacksonville were held on Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, in Jacksonville. Burial was held in Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born in Louisville, Ky. She died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Paul Smith Sr. and a son, Michael Edward Smith. Eva Bass Steward, 88, of Valdosta, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Carson McLane Chapel.
