LHS sports notebook: Lafayette softball headed to regional final, LHS baseball falls in district title game

Haley Ellefson and Richelle McDonald have led a young Lafayette team all the way to a regional final. 

Haley Ellefson hit two home runs and the Lafayette softball team jumped out to a big lead to defeat Baldwin 11-6 on Friday in a regional quarterfinal matchup at LHS.

The first seven hitters of the game reached base for the Hornets as they grabbed a 7-1 advantage after one inning.

Tara Byrd had two hits in the game, Haley Shows drove in two runs, and Krista Lyons scored two runs. 

Richelle McDonald pitched six innings to pick up her fourth win of the season.

LHS (11-17) travels to Union County on Tuesday with the winner earning a trip to the final four.

Lafayette baseball falls to Madison County

Madison County defeated Lafayette 4-1 on Friday to capture the District 5-1A Championship.

LHS will travel to Williston on Wednesday for a regional semifinal game.
