VALDOSTA — Downtown Valdosta will be a star attraction 6 p.m., March 8, as six area restaurants unite for the premiere of Pub Crawl.

“The Pub Crawl is the first of its kind for downtown,” said Keira Moritz, owner of Steel Magnolias and Birdie’s Market and Catering.

Benefitting the Children’s Advocacy Center, the Pub Crawl is a charitable event hosted by the Azalea City Civic Club in which guests can sample drinks, cocktails, craft beer and more, according to organizers.

The $50 admission ticket also includes a taste of appetizers from Birdie’s, organizers confirmed.

Steel Magnolias, 306 North, Jessie’s Restaurant and Catering, Bleu Cafe and Bleu Pub are among the featured eateries that participants will explore, Moritz said.

Birdie’s will be the introduction and the conclusion for the Pub Crawl, according to Moritz, and the Tim Miller Band will perform.

Candice Maples, manager of 306 North, said the Pub Crawl is an event the restaurants have been wanting to host but didn’t have the means of attempting.

Bryan Deal, Azalea City Civic Club president, said the organization aims to promote businesses downtown while also increasing financial support and awareness for the needs of children in the community.

“The CAC is a wonderful organization that serves a deep need in the lives of children affected by abuse in our community,” he said. “We want to support their efforts in any way that we can.”

Deal said he believes the Children’s Advocacy Center has a significant impact on the lives and children and said the center is needed.

He said he and Blake Cowart, Azalea City Civic Club vice president, have been to previous pub crawls in Savannah and Athens and said Cowart recommended hosting one for Valdosta.

“We contacted Keira Moritz and Missy Smith (Valdosta Main Street), and the idea just took off from there,” he said.

Moritz said an event such as the Pub Crawl provides a good opportunity for the community to experience businesses and restaurants they may have yet to experience.

“This is a great event for folks to come out, enjoy downtown and support a great cause,” she said.

Tickets are limited and can be purchased at any participating restaurant, as well as Smitty’s Liquor Store, Moritz said.
