VALDOSTA — The tagline “I ain’t doin’ it” is heard by millions all over Facebook and will soon come alive right here in Valdosta.
Social media star Heather Land refuses to do lots of things, but one thing the “I ain’t doin’ it” creator will do is make her way to the Azalea City Church of God, 7 p.m., Sept. 9.
Land, whose branding page has more than 2.5 million followers on Facebook, will perform a stand-up and will also sing songs from her album, “Counting On,” as part of a comedy tour.
With a myriad of online views, Snapchat filters aid the comedian in joking about topics such as motherhood, dating and random everyday happenings.
Holly Salazar, Land’s radio and television promoter, characterized her as being witty, down to earth and authentic.
“She’s just as nice in real life as she is in videos,” Salazar said. “She’s probably one of the easiest people to talk to, always has a great personality.”
Land had not planned on working in comedy. She once worked as a refinancer for a real estate company and also as a worship leader, Salazar said.
Following a divorce, the mother of two began creating Snapchat videos with her mom friends. They dared her to post one on social media, and it reached more than 47,000 views, Salazar said.
“It was really just kind of on a whim; it just started out kind of out of nowhere just as a dumb joke,” she said.
Now Land is touring cities in California, Nevada, Mississippi, Florida and her hometown in Tennessee.
Her 90-minute set is expected to spotlight past lovers, her teenage kids and all things she just isn’t doing, Salazar said.
“I ain’t doin’ it” was born in Land’s first video and has grown to be a staple in her comedy. It’s her own reality that drives her jokes, Salazar said.
“She’ll talk about dating ex-boyfriends and the things that happened on those dates and about these characters; and they’re all real-life stories, and she’ll say ‘I’m not doing it ever again,’” she said.
Her album, “Counting On,” was released in April. This is also the name of the album’s last track.
Land sings about all the things in life that she is counting on to come to her during her life, including genuine love, Salazar said.
In the lyrics, Land sings “a love that’s only made for me; that is what I’m counting on; I know in time, he’ll come my way; stand by my side, so brave and strong.”
Caleb Ogle, media pastor of Azalea City Church of God, said Land has an inspirational and comedic view of life.
“She has a knack for finding the funny things in life that everybody kind of deals with,” he said. “She does a really good job of finding humor in it and not letting things get her down.”
He said he believes Land is encouraging and helps people to not take things too seriously.
There will be a brief intermission during her show at Azalea City. Advanced tickets are $20 while tickets at the door the day of the event are $25.
It is open to the public, and Land will be selling her merchandise, Ogle said.
Salazar said Land has a good following in the South and could possibly return to the region. Visit myazaleacity.com for more information or to purchase tickets.
“Be prepared to laugh and wear waterproof makeup,” Salazar said.
