The Texaco convenience store and gas station on US 129 North was robbed early Wednesday morning. No one was hurt.

According to authorities, a white male walked into the store at 5:56 a.m. and demanded money. The clerk gave the man an undisclosed sum.

The man didn’t say he had a weapon, but he kept one hand behind his back and told the clerk he did not want to hurt anyone, say reports. The man then fled the scene on foot along US 129.

The Hamilton Correctional Institution K-9 unit was on scene searching the woods on the east side of 1-10 just past the US 129 on-ramp, but the suspect eluded authorities and the search was suspended. The suspect remains at large and the case is under investigation.
