A Live Oak man who died following a crash on north Houston Ave. Aug. 15 was not fatally injured in the accident, say police. Carl W. Jackson, 70, of 7448 115 Drive, suffered an aortic abdominal aneurysm and lost control of his 2000 Dodge pickup, according to Det. Sgt. Ron Shaw of the Live Oak Police Department. Jackson crossed into the northbound lane of traffic, striking a car driven by Stephen E. Myers, 62, Lake City, say reports. Jackson continued south through a vacant lot for approximately 200 feet, coming to rest against an abandoned vehicle on the south side of the lot.
There was no indication Jackson attempted to hit the brakes. Shaw said an eyewitness reported that he appeared to be slumped over when his car struck that of Myers. Jackson was unconscious when emergency workers reached the scene.
He was transported to Shands Live Oak where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, say police. Myers was unhurt.
Police say neither speed nor alcohol was a factor in the crash.
