HAHIRA — A Hahira police officer was fired following an incident that occurred earlier this month, authorities said Thursday.
Hahira Police Chief Stryde Jones confirmed the officer’s dismissal, saying it followed the start of an investigation into the Nov. 1 incident.
Jones said that because the investigation is ongoing, he could not go into details about what happened.
District Attorney Brad Shealy said he had received a case file on an officer regarding the use of force on a Hahira resident.
“I will review the case and make a determination as to whether or not the use of force was justified,” Shealy said in a statement. “If the use of force was justified, I will send a letter to the Hahira Police Department stating the same. If the use of force was not justified, the case will be presented to the grand jury in January or February of next year. Whatever the Grand Jury decides would be released to the public.”
