KINGSLAND — One week after being swept in their opening Region 1-6A baseball series, the Valdosta Wildcats finished turning the tables Friday by winning both games at Camden County to complete the sweep. Valdosta hung on for an 8-5 victory in the opener, then had a 8-6 win in the nightcap.
Valdosta plays at Richmond Hill Tuesday. The double Wildcat series moves to the Azalea City Friday. Richmond Hill won two of three from Tift County last week and is 2-4 in the standings to Valdosta’s 3-3.
It was a 4-4 game going into the seventh inning of the first contest.
Turner Samples, Braeden Lampkin and Matt Bounds loaded the bases with no outs. Stephen Little stepped up and forced an error to give the ‘Cats the lead. A fielder’s choice gave Easton Lehman an RBI, according to official stats on GameChanger.
With two down, Blake Bowman stepped up with a single, plating Zion Odum and Little.
A double and single in the bottom of the seventh gave Camden a run back, but Tanner Day shut the door to preserve the win.
Day gave up a single earned run over three relief innings. Samples began the day on the bump and struck out seven.
Little had two hits and drove in four runs. Bowman had two RBIs.

More late-inning fireworks provided for another VHS win. Trailing 6-3 in the sixth, the Wildcats scored five times, then retired Camden in order the rest of the way.
Like in the first game, they loaded the bases, this time with one out. Samples cleared the bags with a triple, then scored on a Lampkin sacrifice fly. Little doubled in the fifth run.
Brooks Carter got the ‘W’ in relief of Kyler Davis. Over four frames of work, Carter surrendered only one hit and fanned six.
