VALDOSTA— Lowndes High School’s Isaiah Camon made his college dreams official Friday morning by signing his national letter of intent to play basketball at Columbus State University.
Camon, a standout player for the Lowndes High School Vikings, celebrated the milestone alongside his loved ones after years of dedication to the sport. Camon described what the event meant to him and what goals he was already setting for himself.
“It is about training, playing hard. It’s just really about taking the game of basketball seriously. I put tears into the game—sweat, time, hours. So, it’s great and calms me to have a place to go and somewhere to play in college,” said Camon. “My goals are to come in and just work, see where I fit best on the team, and do what I can to help.”
Before the pen hit the paper, Lowndes head coach Reshon Benjamin took a moment to reflect on Camon’s journey and growth since joining the program. Coach Benjamin shared how, before they took off during this year’s season, Camon came to him with a goal: to bring home a championship—something that had eluded him throughout his basketball career.
That goal became reality this season as the Vikings surged through regional play to clinch the region title, marking a major highlight for Camon and his teammates.
“One thing I’ve learned about you is—when you set your mind on something, nothing stops you,” Coach Benjamin said during the ceremony. “So the goals that you established while you were here at Lowndes—you are now creating new ones. My prayer for you is that you do the same thing when you go to Columbus State.”
After a hype video rolled through some of Camon’s best moments on the court, the senior stepped up to sign, thanking all in attendance and those who helped him reach this milestone.
Coach Benjamin offered some parting words of wisdom to Camon as he prepares to take the next steps.
“My advice to him would be—with the tenacity and mental toughness he has… that now that you have gotten to this step, it now begins,” Benjamin said. “Everything you have done up to this point is just a framework for what you are about to get ready to go into.”
The ceremony was a testament to Camon’s work ethic, growth, and the support system that helped him get there.
