VSU cross country teams finish season

The Valdosta State men’s and women’s cross country teams had a number of personal records at the NCAA South Regional at Florida Southern on Saturday.
VSU senior Jaison Morning paced the VSU men, finishing 60th with a time of 33:53.68 in the 10K event, as all seven Blazers had personal records. On the women’s side, sophomore Angela Cipriani finished 70th with a time of 24:45.4 in the 6K, a personal record.
Embry-Riddle claimed championships on both the men’s and the women’s sides, while VSU finished 15th on the men’s side and 18th on the women’s. Union finished second on the women’s side, followed by Lee as automatic qualifiers to the NCAA National Championship, while Lee was runner-up on the men’s side and Florida Southern qualified for third. The 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship is scheduled for Dec. 1 in Pittsburgh, as part of the Division II Fall Festival.
Individually, Lee’s Christan Noble won on the men’s side with a time of 31:19.17, while Central State’s Raymond Korir was second with a time of 31:44.18 and Morehouse’s Trey Simons was third with a time of 31:49.53.
For the women, Embry-Riddle had two of the top-three finishers, including region champion Sarah Edens with a time of 21:18.61. Shorter’s Makayla Hewell finished second at 21:34.91 and Edens’ teammate Kristen Metcalfe was third at 21:48.60.
Following Cipriani, freshman Makenzee Page was 83rd with a personal record time of 25:16.87, followed by freshman Samantha Murray at 89th with a time of 25:25.46 for a personal record. Freshman Kailey Brough was 99th with a time of 25:54.06 to round out four of the five counting scores in the top 100. Sophomore Olivia Rosener rounded out the scoring for the VSU women, finishing 111th with a time of 26:31.68. Junior Jamie Ford finished 118th with a time of 27:31.90 for a season-best, while freshman Kayle Smith finished 124th at 28:39.07 and a personal record.
For the VSU men, freshman Khiro Hoilett finished 78th with a time of 34:35.28, followed closely by freshman David Gunn at 80th with a time of 34:40.65. Freshman Brishen House finished 89th with a time of 35:02.83, while freshman Kevin Favard finished 105th with a time of 35:48.23 to round out the scoring for VSU. Junior Chance Roe finished 111th with a time of 36:04.69, while sophomore Nicholas Flatt finished 115th with a time of 36:20.37.
With two young teams returning for 2019, VSU looks to continue of the success of 2018.
